Rotary and UNICEF Launch a Speaking Book to Prevent the Spread of Polio on World Polio Day
Through the generosity of Sir Emeka Offor, the Rotary International Polio Ambassador to Nigeria, funding was provided for the supply of 15,000 Speaking Books titled “Yes to Health…No to Polio” to mark World Polio Day on October 24th in Abuja. This innovative educational tool endorsed by JNI, representing the Muslim community in Nigeria, is to inform local and vulnerable communities in Nigeria about the importance of vaccination, maintaining a clean environment, and hand washing in order to help eradicate polio.

The Speaking Book contains 16 pages of easy to understand text, illustrations, and a sound track recorded in Hausa and English and will be used by UNICEF for their VCM’s – (Volunteer Community Mobilisers) as part of the END POLIO NOW campaign. As each VCM visits on average 100 households, Yes to Health…No to Polio will impact on 1.5 million with messaging that will be seen, read, heard and understood.
