has condemned the recent attack of Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa as he called on non-governmental and civil society organisations in the two countries to work in ending the attacks.
South African xenophobes had launched an attack on businesses of foreigners in the country on Sunday.
Executive Director of Nigeria Network of NGOs, Oyebisi, Babatunde Oluseyi, reacting to the xenophobic attack also called for synergy between NGOs in Nigeria and South Africa.
He said, “I call on the South African National Association of NGOs and other civil society organisations in South Africa to speak up against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals.
“As brothers and sisters in solidarity we can’t continue to allow this barbaric act to go on.
“I demand from my South African colleagues public statements and actions condemning these acts.
“We must now work together to address this problem. That is why I will be reaching out to CSO colleagues to have bilateral conversations on what role Nigerian and South African CSOs can play in addressing this menace.”
The Executive Director, Nigeria Network of NGOs, added that discussions are ongoing with civil society leaders across the African continent including colleagues from South Africa.
He also said Nigerian Government to ensure that those behind these attacks are brought to book.
He said, “In the last 24hours I have been discussing bilaterally with I am aware that civil society organisations in South Africa are speaking out loudly against the attacks.
“While we are all now working together on a joint statement and multistakehokder action to support government efforts in addressing this menace, I openly condemn the attacks on South African businesses/brands in Nigeria.
“Just as is expected of South African authorities, I call on the Nigerian Government to ensure that those behind these attacks are brought to book
