Chairman, Agro and Non-Oil Sector, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry LCCI, Wale Oyekoya, has decried the non-monitoring of farm produce being sold in the markets.
Oyekoya spoke against the background of the ban on export of farm produce by the international communities to their countries.
According to him, there is need to guarantee food safety in the country by regulating the quality of farm produce on sale in local markets.
He noted that in the open markets, some of the farm produce on display were covered with flies.
Oyekoya said that displaying farm produce in dirty environment was part of the food borne diseases the nation was having and that nobody was doing anything to check it.
He said that the non-monitoring of farm produce and how they were displayed was one of the reasons the life span in Africa, especially in Nigeria was short.
