In the recent times, intake of the codeine cough syrup has drastically increased in spite of its drug abuse.

Codeine is an extremely addictive drug taken mostly by the Nigerian youths especially in the northern region where the country’s poverty is rated high.

While the sellers of the drug make excessive increase over its demand from youths who wish to go toxic on its usage even when it’s rarely necessary for them, the new exclusive report of the BBCAfrica revealed how this had landed most of its abusers in the rehabilitation centres across Nigeria.

Here’s the documentary that reveals the pathetic situation:

The Nigerian Senate has however reacted over the drug abuse after the documentary broke the internet yesterday.

After watching it, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President admitted that if the government fails to take swift action in the abuse ife drug the implications may be catastrophic.

“Even though I have been working on this #DrugAbuse issue for some time now, watching the @BBCAfrica documentary was another eye-opener. If care is not taken, we could be sitting on a catastrophe.

This is why @NGRSenate convened the Roundtable on #DrugAbuse in Kano in December”, he wrote on Twitter this afternoon.
