Job Title: Head of Agribusiness
Reports To: Supply Chain Director
Context/Scope:

 
Local Raw Materials (LRM) presents a significant opportunity for Guinness Nigeria to deliver on supply security, better COGS, transformational innovations and best-in-class corporate reputation
LRM has a pivotal role in innovations as well: given Nigeria’s vast Agricultural potential, LRM should actively couple with other GN functions to explore and land innovation opportunities in both beer and spirits, across the spectrum of product portfolios
GN has a solid reputation, and LRM can play a role to build this even further. By actively engaging in agricultural and packaging supply chains, LRM should provide a platform through GN can engage actively with local and Federal Governments on broader policy discussions, and especially how to translate policy into action.
DIMENSIONS
a) Leadership Responsibilities: 

The role will be focussed on leading the development and execution of best-in-class LRM strategies for GN. It would work closely with GN Exec and functional teams to ensure that LRM strategies are fit-for-market, and are pursued with rigor and pace. The role would also interface with Senior State and Federal Govt. officials, as well as Senior Management of partner organizations both in the private and non-profit sectors.
b) Financial Responsibilities
The financial scope of the role includes the governance, supply and quality assurance of all incoming local raw material (grains, ENA and other materials of brewing importance) for GN. The role is to safeguard that the right investments and partnerships are implemented, to ensure upstream supply chain development ahead of GN market growth plans.
The role will help provide for supply chain stability and growth of grains and other starch sources. This includes design and high level implementation support for partnerships which attract internal and external investment to enhance performance of supply chain project partners – farmers, agri-processors, logistic providers, etc.
c) Market Complexity
1. Liaises with, consults and advises the GN Managing Director, Supply Director, Corporate Relations Director, Heads of Procurement, and Finance Director. Links closely with the Africa Head of Sustainable Agriculture Sourcing, to ensure application of lessons from other markets in Africa and globally.
2. Works across functions and with the leadership team to ensure the development and implementation of GN LRM strategy that can guarantee cost-effective and sustainable local supply chains for core materials (sorghum, cassava, maize and ENA). Working with the Head if Sustainable Agriculture Sourcing, looks across markets to identify and implement partnerships and breakthrough business models that deliver value across all markets.
3. The role is part of the governance structure for GN LRM strategy and executions, accountable for delivery of key LRM business goals in GN.
Purpose of Role: 
1. To lead development and execution of GN LRM sourcing strategy, working collaboratively with a complex set of internal and external partners.
2. To lead Project King from inception to implementation, working closely with Guinness & Diageo Leadership and all external stakeholders
Top 3-5 Accountabilities
1. Lead development and delivery of Project King
2. Lead development and execution of GN 5 year LRM strategy, and as priority implement a sustainable sourcing model for sorghum
3. Ensure supply chain stability and growth of LRM (grains, ENA, others) working closely with internal and external partners
4. Ensure the agri-business partnerships, investments and future opportunities for LRM lead to sustainable improvement in quality, cost and flexibility in GN supply chains
5. Ensure sufficient governance and controls to manage the quality of LRM, from intake, storage, processing and movements till usage in the brewery.
Qualifications and Experience Required
1. Experience in exceptional development and execution of local sourcing strategies, involving multiple and diverse set of internal and external stakeholders 2. Strong, persuasive leadership, communication and influencing skills will be essential
3. An astute commercial sensibility, with proven experience in delivering on clear financial outcomes
4. Degree or equivalent in any technical discipline
5. Good knowledge of Agriculture Supply Chains will be a strong advantage
6. Awareness of Diageo quality, risk management, environmental and safety standards.
7. An established network of government and business contacts in the field of agri-business development will be of advantage.
Barriers to Success in Role
1. Inability to secure full support of market leadership and functional teams to drive LRM strategy development and execution
2. Inadequate articulate and secure resources (management, financial and human) needed to develop and deliver GN LRM Strategy
3. Inability to build and maintain strong and effective partnerships with a complex and diverse set of internal and external partners, across a wide spectrum of Seniority and Functions
4. Poor political skills, limiting ability to interface with Senior State and Federal Gov. partners in delivering Project King, and the broader GN LRM Agenda
Mitigation for Potential Barriers to Success in Role
1. Governance model to include key stakeholders for continued engagement on LRM strategy development and delivery
2. Prior alignment on role: objectives, resources, KPIs. Elevate key capex / resource decisions as needed
3. Close engagement with key external value chain partners to ensure long term alignment on interests, roles and intended outcomes
4. Close engagement with in-market CRD and CR teams, to ensure alignment with external Gov. partners.
