In a strategic move to bolster regional stability, UNDP Nigeria has officially inaugurated Phase II of the Northwest Prevention Facility Project.
The milestone was marked by a comprehensive community entry mission to Kebbi State, aimed at establishing a grassroots foundation for long-term peace and security.
High-Level Stakeholder Engagement
The mission, spearheaded by Ashraf Usman, Head of the Northwest Programme, facilitated a series of intensive consultations with a broad spectrum of local actors. The delegation met with State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), security agencies, and local government authorities to ensure the project aligns with existing state frameworks.
Crucially, the team engaged directly with traditional, religious, and community leaders, alongside representatives from affected frontline LGAs. These dialogues provided the UNDP with firsthand intelligence regarding local conflict dynamics and current community-led resilience efforts.
“Together, we are co‑creating context‑specific solutions that strengthen collaboration, build resilience, and advance sustainable peace, security, and development across Kebbi State,” stated in the report.
Strengthening Pathways for Peace
By involving local stakeholders at the onset of Phase II, the UNDP has established strong implementation pathways designed to address the unique socio-political landscape of the Northwest. The project focuses on co-creating solutions rather than imposing external templates, ensuring that interventions are both sustainable and culturally relevant.
International Cooperation for Development
The initiative continues to receive significant backing from the Government of Germany, whose ongoing partnership is central to the Facility’s operations. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to sustainable development and the mitigation of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
