The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and TomorrowNow have partnered to improve access to timely and reliable weather and climate information for farmers across Nigeria.
The collaboration was highlighted during a sideline event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos, where both organisations discussed ways to strengthen climate advisory services for the agricultural sector.
The initiative aims to provide farmers with clearer and more timely climate information to support agricultural planning, guide farming decisions and help producers respond better to changing weather conditions.
NiMet Seeks Standardised Climate Information
NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the need to standardise climate information provided to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
Anosike said the partnership must focus on measurable results and deliver practical benefits to farmers, emphasising the importance of making climate information useful for everyday agricultural decisions.
He noted that consistent and reliable climate advisories would help farmers and other agricultural stakeholders make informed choices based on weather and climate conditions.
TomorrowNow Pledges Support for Agriculture
Speaking at the event, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, assured NiMet’s leadership of the organisation’s commitment to expanding climate advisory services across Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
Miranda said the partnership would support efforts to deliver climate information at scale, helping agricultural producers access guidance relevant to their operations.
The collaboration is expected to improve access to actionable weather forecasts and climate advisories, enabling farmers to make better-informed decisions about their farming activities.
Partnership Targets Agricultural Resilience
The partnership comes amid growing efforts to improve the use of weather and climate information in agricultural planning and risk management.
By strengthening the delivery of climate advisories, NiMet and TomorrowNow aim to help farmers respond more effectively to weather-related risks and improve resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
The initiative is also expected to support better decision-making among crop and livestock producers by making relevant climate information more accessible and useful.
