The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cisco Networking Academy to provide digital skills training opportunities for up to 50,000 fellows and alumni of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP).

The partnership, announced by UNDP Nigeria on October 9, is expected to help young Nigerians develop digital skills sought by employers and improve their readiness for the workplace.

The agreement was signed under the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme, a Nigerian government initiative funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by UNDP.

Through the partnership, NJFP fellows and alumni will gain access to Cisco Networking Academy, which offers digital and technology-focused learning opportunities.

Partnership to Strengthen Youth Employability

UNDP Nigeria said the agreement would expand opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire relevant digital skills and improve their prospects in the labour market.

In its announcement, the organisation said the partnership would help fellows and alumni build their capacity to meet employers’ needs while preparing them for the changing world of work.

The initiative also highlights the role of collaboration between government, development partners and the private sector in expanding access to skills development for young people.

Vice President’s Office Recognised

UNDP Nigeria acknowledged the leadership of the Office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, in advancing youth employability and supporting partnerships focused on investing in young Nigerians.

“We appreciate the leadership of the Office of the Vice President Shettima in advancing youth employability and championing partnerships that invest in young Nigerians,” the organisation said.

“Together, we are helping young Nigerians turn their talent into opportunity,” the UNDP added.

EU-Funded Programme Targets Young Nigerians

The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme is a government initiative designed to support young Nigerians through opportunities that strengthen their transition into the workforce.

With access to Cisco Networking Academy, up to 50,000 NJFP fellows and alumni are expected to benefit from additional digital learning opportunities under the new partnership.

The agreement represents another step towards expanding young Nigerians’ access to skills development as employers increasingly seek digital competencies across different sectors.
