President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to embark on his first official visit to his home state, Lagos, to inaugurate a series of legacy projects completed by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
The two-day presidential working visit, slated for Wednesday and Thursday, will feature the unveiling of iconic infrastructure ranging from massive transport links to expansive educational and sporting facilities.
Among the flagship projects to be commissioned is the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, a strategic infrastructure piece conceived over two decades ago during Tinubu’s tenure as Governor and brought to life by Sanwo-Olu. Other major highlights include the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, and the Maracana Stadium, which boasts an unprecedented 19 mini-football pitches built side-by-side.
Strategic Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Speaking at a press briefing in Alausa on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, emphasized that the visit reinforces the strong synergy between the Federal Government and Lagos State. He noted that the projects were meticulously designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population while stimulating economic activity.
“The presence of Mr. President in Lagos at this auspicious occasion further reinforces the strong partnership between the Federal Government and Lagos State. These projects represent progress in action and hope for a better future; they are enduring legacies that will serve generations to come,” Omotoso stated.
The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is expected to be a game-changer for commuters, creating a direct connection between the Ikeja Central Business District and residential hubs in Ojota and Maryland. By bypassing traditional bottlenecks, the bridge aims to drastically reduce travel time for thousands of motorists daily.
Revolutionizing Education and Social Welfare
The President will also unveil the regenerated Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle. Serving over 20,000 pupils, the cluster includes 36 schools that have undergone massive reconstruction. The upgrade includes a vocational training center and specialized facilities for People Living with Disability (PLD), including vertical lifts to ensure total inclusivity.
In the realm of food security and technology, Tinubu will commission the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo to decentralize food access, and the Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building. The five-floor LAGIS facility is designed as a one-stop shop for geospatial mapping and land administration, digitizing how the state manages urban planning.
Logistics and Traffic Management
To ensure a seamless visit, the Lagos State Government has activated a comprehensive security and logistics plan. The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) confirmed that over 500 personnel will be deployed to manage traffic flow during the President’s movement.
While certain areas may experience temporary traffic adjustments, officials assured residents that measures are in place to minimize disruptions to daily activities. The administration maintains that these projects from the Multi-Agency Building in Alausa to the sporting hub in Ajegunle stand as a testament to the Greater Lagos vision and the benefits of continuity in governance.
