President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, declaring the ruling party ready and united to seek a fresh mandate from Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing party stalwarts, federal lawmakers, and governors, President Tinubu charged members of the newly formed campaign council to demonstrate unwavering discipline and dedication, warning that past political success counts for nothing without victory in the upcoming polls.

“I thank all of you for the last election, but no one gets credit for an incomplete assignment until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your electoral wards, until you deliver the votes,” President Tinubu said.

Balancing Governance with Electioneering

The President acknowledged counsel from Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, who advised him not to allow intense political campaigning to derail his primary administration duties.

Responding to the advice, Tinubu pledged that while party leaders spearhead grassroots mobilization across states and local councils, his administration will remain laser-focused on economic recovery, attracting foreign direct investment, and managing national debt obligations.

“We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait. We want those investors to come in and invest for the future of our children,” the President noted, adding that he would still create time to engage citizens directly on his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Shettima Fires Shots at Opposition Rivals

Speaking earlier at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised President Tinubu’s long-standing democratic credentials, recalling how Tinubu provided a platform for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the presidency under the Action Congress (AC) in 2007.

Shettima criticized opposition figures, taking aim at Atiku for allegedly disrespecting the presidency, while also faulting Labour Party leader Peter Obi over his frequent economic comparisons between Nigeria and foreign nations.

“You can call him Bola, if you like, call him Adekunle, but he is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Vice President Shettima declared.

Lessons from Coastal Transformation in Lagos

Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for sustaining major infrastructure legacies, specifically pointing to the reclamation of the Atlantic shoreline that birthed Eko Atlantic City.

“There is a limit, but there is no limit in daring. We dared the Atlantic Ocean, and the result is the Atlantic City in Lagos,” Tinubu said, urging the campaign team to apply that same boldness when presenting the party’s record to the electorate.
