President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack on villagers in Worro. The new military command will lead Operation Savannah Shield, a targeted mission to secure the area and protect communities from further violence.
The President issued the directive after a briefing from the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, regarding the incident. President Tinubu condemned the assault, characterizing the gunmen as heartless for targeting defenceless citizens in a campaign of terror that offends the nation’s shared values.
Reports indicate the victims were targeted because they refused to submit to forced indoctrination by the attackers. President Tinubu praised the courage of the community for standing against extremist ideologies.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue. Nigeria will never surrender its people to extremism and terrorism masquerading as faith,” the President stated.
President Tinubu further ordered federal and state agencies to collaborate closely to provide immediate relief to the affected residents. He assured the public that security forces would pursue the perpetrators to ensure they face justice, emphasizing that those responsible for the atrocity would not go unpunished.
Extending his condolences to the families of the deceased and the government of Kwara State, the President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to defending national security.
“The Federal Government stands with you. We will protect our communities, defend our values, and defeat those who seek to divide us through terror,” he said.
