President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the victory is a sign that democracy will continue to thrive in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 16, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory in the governorship election.

Tinubu Urges Adeleke to Unite Osun

The President said Adeleke’s victory confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership, while wishing him success as he begins another four-year term.

He urged the governor to use his re-election as an opportunity to unite the people of the state, regardless of their political affiliations or choices during the election.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress,” Tinubu said.

He also called on Adeleke to work for the development of the state and ensure that the interests of all residents remain a priority.

President Commends Other Candidates

Tinubu also praised the other candidates who contested the election, praising what he described as their courage and discipline throughout the electoral process.

According to him, their participation contributed to Nigeria’s democratic culture and strengthened the electoral process.

“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” the President said.

Tinubu Praises INEC, Security Agencies

The President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election.

He said the process produced a clear winner and reflected the choice of the people of Osun State.

Adeleke’s re-election followed the conclusion of the Osun governorship election, with the result giving him another four years to lead the state.
