President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between governments, football authorities, and the private sector to support development in Nigeria and across the African continent.
According to a statement released by CAF Media on May 12, 2026, the discussions centred on the role of football in promoting innovation, youth empowerment, and economic growth in Africa.
Both leaders also discussed ways football partnerships could contribute to broader socio-economic development objectives, particularly in Nigeria.
The meeting took place during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit, which has brought together African leaders, policymakers, investors, and development partners in Nairobi.
Official photographs released after the meeting showed President Tinubu and Dr Motsepe exchanging handshakes and participating in discussions alongside other delegates at the summit venue.
CAF said the engagement reflected growing interest in using football as a tool for development and regional cooperation across Africa.
The football body also noted that collaboration between governments and sports institutions remains important in expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening investment in sports development.
Dr Motsepe, who has served as CAF president since 2021, has repeatedly advocated stronger partnerships between African governments and football institutions to improve infrastructure, youth participation, and commercial growth within the sport.
President Tinubu is currently in Nairobi to participate in the Africa Forward Summit, where discussions are focused on economic transformation, trade, digital innovation, climate resilience, and regional partnerships across Africa.
