The Executive Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said that leadership is the only factor militating against the development of the country.
The governor said this at the annual Akintola Williams Distinguished Lecture Series tagged “Leadership Factors and Good Governance – Key to National Growth and Development” – to celebrate the 96th birthday of the doyen of accounting in Nigeria, Pa Akintola Williams on Thursday.
The governor said that the country that was known for super developments in the past is now known for underdevelopment.
He said that effective leadership has been proven has the key for development in countries like Malasi, Singapore and United Arab Emirate.
“Effective leadership has been demonstrated in Singapore and Malasia, go to Dubai, you will see great things one man is doing, they have been able to prove it that leadership is key. Even the super powers of the world are struggling to compete with them. Just because of one who was denied the privilege few years ago was determined to make the place great.”
Amosun pointed out that Nigeria is a monolithic economy that everyone of depends on one source of resource which had made the people lazy.
“When oil came, the thing that should have been a blessing to us is more of a course. Our groundnut pyramid is gone; our cocoa, cotton, cola, and palm oil are no more viable again.”
