The TAP Initiative, in partnership with a broad-based coalition of civil society organizations, election observer groups, legal practitioners, human rights defenders, and governance stakeholders, is set to officially launch the National Electoral Accountability Consortium (NEAC) tomorrow.
The upcoming event will bring together youth-led organizations, media partners, and members of the diplomatic community to foster stronger collaboration, coordinated action, and collective vigilance ahead of future electoral cycles. Consortium organizers highlighted that the convening meets an urgent need for a unified platform to strengthen election observation, citizen engagement, and public accountability nationwide.
Unveiling a Mirror Platform for IReV
A major highlight of tomorrow’s event will be the formal unveiling of a groundbreaking civic-tech platform designed to replicate and complement the functionality of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
The upcoming platform will serve as an independent, citizen-driven repository enabling voters, observers, civil society organizations, political parties, and journalists to upload and collate polling unit election results in real time directly from locations across Nigeria.
“The launch of this platform represents a significant milestone in strengthening citizen oversight of elections and creating a collaborative ecosystem for electoral accountability in Nigeria,” the TAP Initiative and its coalition partners stated ahead of the unveiling.
Beyond tracking raw vote counts, the technology is built to let citizens monitor election-day developments, report irregularities, and generate early-warning alerts to facilitate coordinated responses to electoral violence, vote-buying, and voter suppression.
Strengthening Democratic Vigilance
In addition to introducing the new civic-tech tool, tomorrow’s gathering will serve as a strategic launchpad to harmonize how civil society engages with electoral management bodies and security agencies throughout the voting process.
Under the NEAC framework, participating organizations will harmonize election observation methodologies and reporting tools, enabling stakeholders to jointly map electoral risks and present unified positions on governance concerns.
By providing open access to election data and analytics, the coalition aims to support evidence-based advocacy, promote public confidence in voting systems, and build rapid-response protocols to protect electoral integrity across Nigeria.
