The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Lagos House, Marina, to commend the state government’s developmental achievements and express gratitude for its support during his coronation.
During the visit, the monarch praised the Sanwo-Olu administration for its significant strides in infrastructure, specifically highlighting improvements in traffic management and transportation. He noted that the delivery of the Blue and Red rail lines, alongside enhancements in water transportation, has substantially reduced travel times across the state.
Oba Ladoja described Lagos as a city deeply connected to his personal and traditional heritage, explaining that his visit served as a formal appreciation to the Governor and key stakeholders for their roles in his ascension to the throne last year.
“We thank you for the role the State played during the coronation. Lagos is a place deeply connected to my heritage, and it is important to acknowledge the support received,” the Olubadan stated.
The monarch, who also serves as the Chairman of the Oyo State Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs, used the occasion to advocate for a formal constitutional role for traditional rulers. He argued that such recognition would strengthen governance and foster better collaboration between monarchs and the government. He further clarified that while no dispute exists between the traditional institution and the Oyo State government, constitutional backing would solidify their working relationship.
In response, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Ibadan as a central rallying point for the Yoruba race and commended Oba Ladoja for his long-standing service to Nigeria and his leadership in fostering peace within Oyo State.
“Our prayer is that your tenure will not only be long but will bring transformational development to the entire Ibadanland, your state and Nigeria in general. Lagos will continue to stand with you and your kingdom,” the Governor said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that the monarch’s reign would bring further development and transformation to the region, wishing him continued strength and wisdom in his leadership.
