Residents living in number 10 Thomas Street of Owode Elede in Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area of Lagos have been asked to vacate the building due to imminent collapse.
The Chairman of the development Area, Adewale Aremo made the urgent order during the monthly environmental sanitation visit to the street.
Aremo said to the residents on the street that it is crystal clear that the one storey building could cave in anytime, based on its present dilapidated condition.
He drew their attention to the fact that the first floor of the building is already sunk into the ground.
The Sole Administrator added that it is the duty of any responsible government to protect the life of its citizens and this informed his decision to visit the area to take precautionary measure, to prevent any loss of life. Aremo Adewale told occupants of the building that if by Monday they fail to vacate the building, the council will have no other option than to seal up the house.
The council chief who was accompanied to the area by top officials of the council, added that the council will as a matter of urgency draw the attention of the Lagos State Government to the precarious condition of the building, to pave way for necessary action to be taken.
