With less than 18 months to the next democratic dispensation in May 2015, candidates for elective position are beginning to declare their intentions to run for office.
One of such candidate is Alhaji Hakeem Alobo Bakare, HAB, a Lagos business man who has also been behind the scene of governance in the state since the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He was the Chairman of the Fund raising and Mobilization Committee for Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola election campaigns.
In a recent interview, he explained his ambition for 2015 and why he is running for the ultimate seat in Alausa.
According to him, his decision to run for Governor is based on how he has monitored the last two dispensation of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Fashola who he pointed out is running a continuation of the master plan of his predecessor.
“What you see been implemented in Lagos state today is a master plan and a continuation of development” he said.
In the area of improving education in Lagos state, the cosmopolitan nature of the state with a large population makes education a key sector that requires progressive change. I will be committed to encourage reading culture in our schools by improving the state of public libraries in Lagos and also science laboratories in public schools. Education is the bedrock for development.
Claiming he has strong flair for building, the aspirant noted that the housing has been a major flaw of the last two administrations in the state and this is what he sets out to address if elected by producing affordable housing scheme.
If I am voted as the next governor, I will ensure housing is affordable. Most of the housing projects we have presently in Lagos are exorbitant for ordinary people. I will put up a structure in place like during the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande. Through daily contribution known as “Esusu” ordinary people will be able to contribute towards acquiring houses and backed by mortgage.
In the area of health, I will bring healthcare to the doorsteps of Lagosians. People don’t need to go to the general hospital for even the slightest headache. In developed countries, basic healthcare is accessed through general practitioners of medicine. Health centre would function like an infirmary and serve those at the grass root.
My focus for job creation would center on food production through Agriculture. Young people should learn to embrace Agriculture because there are lots of opportunities in that area.
He however admitted that power supply is a major challenge to food preservation and result in loss of food produce.
