The Peace Corps of Nigeria has appealed to the Nigeria Police to stop harassing and intimidating its members.
The Lagos State Commandant of the Corps, Patriot Mutairu Habib made the appeal at a news briefing in Lagos following the ruling of a magistrates court in Oshodi area of the State in which members of the Corps who were arrested on the 22nd of September last year and charged with impersonation, conspiracy, and breach of the peace, were discharged and acquitted.
Patriot Habib who is also the South-West Zonal Commandant of the Corps explained that thirty-four members of the Peace Corps were arrested and detained while on their way to attend an event commemorating the World Peace Day in Ikorodu, but the Presiding Chief Magistrate had struck out the case following the non appearance of the police in court and lack of witnesses.
Patriot Habib commended the Attorney-General of Lagos and the Lagos State Government for the role they played in ensuring that justice was served in a fair manner in the case.
