The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a serious assault incident reported at the Tede Division of the Command, reaffirming its resolve to decisively tackle violent crimes across the state.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident involved an altercation between two farmers, Benua Bukari and Sunday James, both residents of Tede. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Sunday James allegedly attacked Bukari with a cutlass, resulting in severe injury to his right hand.
Following the report, police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Tede Division swiftly mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect. He is currently in police custody while investigation continues.
The victim was promptly taken to the hospital by the police, where he is presently receiving medical treatment.
The incident was said to have stemmed from a disagreement linked to three young women residing in the Ibudọ Kareem Village area of Tede. In response, the Oyo State Police Command has strongly cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging individuals to adopt peaceful and lawful means in resolving disputes.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the incident and directed that the suspect be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
CP Haruna reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding Oyo State of violent crime and ensuring a safe and secure environment, in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police.
The Command also encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.
