The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with an alleged sexual abuse incident involving a minor in the Elebu area of Ibadan.
The arrest followed a report made at the Oke Alaro Police Division after an eight-year-old girl informed her father that she was experiencing pain and had allegedly been abused by a neighbour. The incident was said to have occurred in October 2025.
Upon receiving the complaint, operatives of the Oke Alaro Division promptly commenced investigation into the matter. The suspect, identified as Olaitan Oloyede, was arrested and taken into lawful custody, where he is currently cooperating with investigators.
The victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation, and is presently receiving necessary care and support.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the incident and reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, particularly crimes involving children.
CP Haruna also commended the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for strengthening intelligence-led policing and improving the protection of vulnerable persons. He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Gender Desk, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The Oyo State Police Command urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected cases of abuse to the nearest police station. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, ensuring justice for victims, and ridding the state of violent crimes.
