Med-View Airline has come out to say that the Tuesday’s incident involving one of its aircraft en route to Lagos from Port Harcourt was professionally handled by its pilot.
The airline also said that the pilot applied all the necessary procedure to mitigate the situation.
Recalled that Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) had on Wednesday said that Med-View Airline’s Boeing 737-500 with the registration number 5N-BQM involved in a serious accident while coming into Lagos at about 3:07pm on Tuesday.
The incident occurred same day as Air peace aircraft’s hard landing at the airport.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Med-View Airline, Capt. Michael Ajigbotoso declared that the captain was professional in the discharge of his duty on the incident, despite the abrupt depressurization of the aircraft while in the air.
He insisted that the situation was professionally handled according to required operational standard procedures by the pilot.
He explained that the pilot noticed a warning sign of cabin depressurisation, while descending from 32000ft altitude and quickly briefed the passengers of the situation and referred to his check-list.
“The Captain applied the necessary safety procedure to save the situation,” he said.
He noted that the oxygen masks dropped and were in good working condition for the passengers to use, saying that the pilot had to call for priority landing because he was on number seven on the queue of the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC).
He explained that the captain was obliged the emergency landing status by the ATC and he made a safe landing, while the passengers remained calm as it did not pose a serious danger.
According to him, the airline promptly reported the incident to the authority, while investigation has since commenced by the bureau.
