In a move signaling a decisive transition toward investment-led growth, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the weekend to commission a series of high-impact infrastructure projects in Ogun State.

The centerpiece of the event was the official opening of the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport. The facility is strategically positioned to serve as a logistics powerhouse, designed to unlock export value chains and cement Ogun State’s status as Nigeria’s premier hub for manufacturing and agro-industrial activity.

A Coordinated Blueprint for Industrialization

Beyond the airport, the weekend saw the unveiling of integrated investments spanning customs operations, transport, energy, and urban mobility. These projects represent a unified strategy to boost national productivity, streamline trade facilitation, and create a fertile environment for private sector expansion.

During the ceremony, the Finance Minister emphasized that the federal government’s current trajectory is designed to empower states to take charge of their economic destinies.

“Ongoing economic reforms are restoring fiscal discipline and improving resource allocation,” Minister Edun stated. “We are creating the necessary conditions for states to deliver high-impact infrastructure that supports sustainable growth, job creation, and significantly increased domestic revenue.”

Strengthening the Subnational Economy

The commissioning marks a pivotal shift in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape, moving toward stronger subnational delivery and a deliberate reduction in dependence on borrowing. By establishing self-sustaining industrial zones, the government aims to insulate the economy from global volatility through localized production.

For the wider Nigerian economy, these projects are projected to deepen industrial capacity and expand the nation’s export footprint. Experts suggest the integration of the Agro-Cargo Airport into the national grid will reinforce Nigeria’s competitiveness in both regional African markets and the global arena.
