Following the conclusion of the Pre-COP30 UN Climate Change Conference, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), with the strategic support of the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT), has convened a high-level Post-COP30 Debrief and Negotiators Training.

The session marks a critical step in Nigeria’s 2026 climate roadmap, focusing on translating international diplomacy into local development.

From Diplomacy to Development

Climate negotiations are no longer viewed merely as high-level foreign policy; they are now recognized as the bedrock of national resilience. The outcomes of these global summits directly dictate how resilient Nigerian communities will be against devastating floods and extreme heat, as well as the affordability and reliability of the nation’s energy systems.

Strengthening the 2026 Negotiation Cycle

The training, which builds on a Pre-COP30 readiness program facilitated by the Partnership for Agile Governance & Climate Engagement (PACE), aimed to sharpen the skills of Nigeria’s lead negotiators. By capturing lessons learned from the Amazonian summit and strengthening inter-agency coordination, the NCCC is positioning Nigeria to be a dominant voice in the upcoming 2026 negotiation cycle.

Key focus areas for the training included sharpening strategy for international climate finance access, refining technical positions on carbon markets and loss and damage, and enhancing coordination between federal ministries and subnational actors.

Unlocking Green Growth through PACE

Beyond the negotiation table, PACE continues to drive climate finance readiness across Nigeria’s states and the private sector. The initiative is actively identifying bankable climate-smart projects ranging from renewable energy to sustainable agriculture and connecting them with potential global investors.

By mainstreaming climate action into governance and transparency frameworks, the partnership ensures that the Green Growth promised in international halls finds its way into the Nigerian economy.
