As part of move to create awareness on the effect of climate change, a Non- governmental organization, Foundation for Economic Empowerment & Educational Development (FEED) has engaged residents of Chukuku Community in Kuje area council in a two days Train the Trainer Awareness Creation and Sensitization Workshop on Climate Change, Impacts and Adaptation.
The workshop brought together over 100 community people comprising of men and women, as well as the youths within the community.
The workshop aimed at creating awareness and sensitization of local community dwellers on climate change, the impacts and coping and adaptation methods which can be adopted by the community dwellers.
Mr. Kevins Dzeremo, the executive director of FEED, in his address, highlighted the negative impacts of climate change on rural communities, adding that the community dwellers have low knowledge on coping and adaption strategies.
According to Dzeremo, the NGO was founded on the ideals of community service, self enhancement, with the overall goal of educating people towards effectively adopting and responding to the unavoidable impact of climate change.
A representative of the community, Yunusa Mahmud thanked the NGO for their efforts and noted that the community has been experiencing a litany of environmental problems ranging from land degradation to a reduction in rainfall.
He also noted that a good part of their land is been sold off to developers without their consent. He pleaded for the support of the NGO in preserving their ancestral home.
