In an attempt to bridge the housing deficit in Nigeria, a Non-governmental organisation, Excellent Initiative for Poverty Alleviation(EIPA) has disclosed plans to build 3000 housing units in Kwara state.
This was disclosed in an interview with The Punch recently. Chief Executive Director EIPA, Falilat Salah Deene says housing is a cardinal sector with potential to create jobs.
She stated that their objective is to complement the Federal governments effort in reducing the housing deficit. She also encouraged corporate organisations, wealthy individuals, foreign and local investors to assist the government to bridge the deficit which was put at 16 million units at the cost of N56 trillion by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
Mr Gimba Ya’u Kumo of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria implored both government and private sector to inject funds into the project which the nation urgently needs.
Salaudeen concluded by saying it is the NGO’s intention to extend the housing programme to the 6 geopolitical zones after the completion of this project and availability of funds.
