The Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), is seeking intervention of the Senate on the increase of import duty and federal government’s proposed ban on fairly used vehicles.
The National President of the association, Ajibola Adedoyin, speaking in Abuja, said that if nothing was done to address the issues, his members would be affected adversely.
He said that his members could no longer import cars following the increment in tariff from 35 to 70 per cent.
He said that the Senate should make legislation to review the tariff regime to encourage importation of used cars for Nigerians who cannot afford to buy new vehicles.
Adedoyin said that with the introduction of the new tariff regime, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) had lost about N52.2bn anticipated revenue while his members incurred several losses.
