On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Hotel De Horizon, Wuse 2, Abuja, Transparent Protection Ltd/Gte, a rights-based CSO in partnership with key insurance stakeholders will formally launch a national campaign on Making Insurance Work for Nigeria otherwise known as (MIW4NC).
The insuring public and stakeholders have been invited to attend and participate in the campaign to make Nigerians take up insurance protection, including health insurance.
Time for the event is 10am prompt, and Keynote address presenter is Fola Daniel, Commissioner for Insurance. A major activity of the event would be public presentation of an Assessment Report on ‘No Premium No Cover Policy’ in Nigeria
The MIW4NC is a civil society driven project aimed at increasing insurance awareness and advocacy in Nigeria through popular participation. It is a holistic and multi- dimensional strategy that employs technology and indigenous capacities in growing the insurance sector by strategically addressing the twin challenge of low grassroots awareness and lack of public confidence in the sector.
The broad objective of the project is to increase Insurance sector contribution to the GDP from below 1% to 3% in 36 months. It also seeks to be a platform for enlightening the insuring public and other stakeholders on existing opportunities in the sector as well as for providing feedbacks and holding stakeholders accountable.
The key stakeholders include National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Pension Commission (PenCom), National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Office of the Head of Service of the Federation and Ministries of Finance, Education and Health. Others are National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Assembly, Nigerian Legal Aid Council/ OSCAR, Nigerian Insurance Association (NIA), Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN), Mobile Communication Companies, Civil Society Organizations and the Media.
