The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has officially disbursed N20 million to 20 distinct disability groups to bolster advocacy and awareness campaigns. This strategic financial intervention comes ahead of the 2026 International Disability Day celebration, signaling a proactive approach by the state government to champion inclusivity.
During the presentation ceremony held at the Alausa Secretariat, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasized that the initiative is a direct reflection of the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting the rights of persons living with disabilities.
Strategic Funding for Local Advocacy
Each of the selected beneficiary organizations received a one-million-naira grant intended to scale up grassroots sensitization and policy advocacy. The funding targets structural barriers and aims to foster a more empathetic and accessible environment across Lagos State.
“Today, each beneficiary group will receive one million naira to strengthen advocacy efforts and improve awareness of disability-related issues across the state,” Oyetunde-Lawal stated.
The diverse list of beneficiaries spans several clusters within the disability community, including the Lupus Foundation, the Dwarf Group, the Hearing-Impaired Cluster for the Deaf, and the Spinal Cord Injury Association Lagos, among several others.
A Call for Accountability and Inclusivity
While handing over the funds, the LASODA boss maintained that transparency and impact must remain at the forefront of the execution phase. She strictly urged the leadership of the various clusters to ensure the capital is deployed effectively.
“She urged the groups to ensure that the funds are properly utilised for programmes that will directly benefit their members and advance disability inclusion,” Oyetunde-Lawal added, reaffirming that the state government remains dedicated to expanding socio-economic opportunities in line with its broader social protection and inclusion agenda.
Grantees React to State Intervention
The gesture was met with widespread appreciation from the representatives of the various clusters. Leaders of the beneficiary groups collectively commended both the Lagos State Government and LASODA for the timely financial intervention.
According to the representatives, the N1 million disbursement per group will significantly enhance their ongoing welfare programmes and strengthen vital outreach efforts within their respective communities, ensuring that no individual is left behind as the state gears up for the global disability celebrations.
