In a landmark move to centralize and enhance the quality of higher education, the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education held its inaugural Stakeholders’ Forum on Thursday. The event, titled: Effective Engagement of Private Tertiary Institutions: Collaborating for a Sustainable Future, represents the first formal strategic dialogue between the state government and the private education sector.
Delivering the welcome address, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, emphasized that the state’s ambition to become a global knowledge hub depends on breaking down barriers between public and private institutions.
Sule noted that the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu views education as the primary cornerstone of its development agenda, stressing that the private sector is vital for meeting the demands of the modern workforce.
“This forum marks a shift from transactional interaction to strategic partnership,” Sule stated. “While the government retains its responsibility to ensure quality assurance, we are committed to fostering an environment where private institutions are supported to thrive, innovate, and uphold excellence.”
The Commissioner further highlighted that private institutions are indispensable partners in expanding access to higher education and responding quickly to the emerging needs of the global labor market.
