The Lagos State Government is partnering with OTL Downstream Development in Africa to showcase the state’s tourism potential to local and international delegates expected at the organisation’s 20th anniversary edition in October.
The partnership is aimed at using the landmark event to promote Lagos as a destination for business, culture and leisure while creating opportunities for visitors to experience the state’s tourist attractions and cultural heritage.
The commitment was disclosed on Thursday, August 6, 2026, when the management of OTL Downstream, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Joyce Alabogu, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture at its headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
The visit formed part of preparations for the 20th anniversary edition of OTL Downstream, scheduled to hold from October 25 to 30, 2026.
The collaboration will include efforts to curate tourism experiences for conference participants through visits to selected tourist attractions, cultural heritage sites and leisure destinations across the state.
Lagos Deepens Tourism Partnership
Representing the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Mr Taoreed Dosunmu, welcomed the OTL delegation and congratulated the organisation on its 20 years of contribution to Africa’s downstream energy sector.
Dosunmu said tourism, entertainment, arts and culture remain important components of the Lagos State Government’s THEMES+ Development Agenda because of their potential to create economic opportunities and improve the state’s visibility.
He said Lagos was ready to work with OTL Downstream to create memorable experiences for delegates attending the anniversary edition.
According to him, the state has a range of attractions capable of appealing to both domestic and international visitors, and the partnership would provide an opportunity to present some of them to a wider audience.
He assured the delegation that the ministry would support efforts to connect conference participants with Lagos’ tourism and cultural offerings during the event.
OTL Anniversary to Showcase Lagos Attractions
Alabogu said the 20th anniversary edition of OTL Downstream would go beyond discussions on the downstream energy sector by giving delegates an opportunity to experience Lagos.
She explained that the organisation planned to work with the ministry to curate visits to selected tourism and cultural sites across the state.
The OTL chief executive said the expected presence of international participants would provide an opportunity to introduce Lagos to people who may be visiting the state for the first time.
She noted that the combination of business, tourism, culture and entertainment could make the anniversary event more memorable while also promoting Lagos as a destination for business tourism and cultural exploration.
Alabogu expressed appreciation to the ministry for its willingness to collaborate with OTL Downstream, saying the partnership would add value to the experience of participants attending the landmark edition.
Business, Tourism Meet at Landmark Summit
The 20th anniversary edition of OTL Downstream is expected to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and service providers from Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
The event has evolved into a major platform for discussions on Africa’s downstream energy sector, with participants engaging on policy, investment, innovation and sustainable growth.
The Lagos State Government sees the gathering as an opportunity to connect the state’s tourism offering with a wider business audience and promote the economic value of its cultural and leisure attractions.
The ministry’s collaboration with OTL Downstream is also expected to strengthen the link between business events and tourism, allowing delegates to explore the state beyond the conference venue.
Directors of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, including Mr Temitope Legunsen, Mrs Olubisi Omojare and Mr Aminu Omosun, attended the meeting, alongside members of the OTL Downstream delegation, including Ms Naomi Emeka and Mr Dami Ajayi.
OTL Downstream Development in Africa is a Pan-African platform focused on the downstream energy sector through research, advocacy, policy dialogue and stakeholder engagement. Its 20th anniversary edition in Lagos is expected to provide a wider platform for both industry discussions and the promotion of the state’s tourism assets.
