The Lagos state government has once again reiterated its commitment to deliver a government of inclusiveness to the citizenry.
Speaking shortly after the inaugural meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the Special Adviser to the governor on Civic Engagement, Hon. Kehinde Joseph said the door of the state office of civic engagement is always open to groups and individuals.
“This is the government for all the people, we have nothing to hide. Any CSO can come around to question us, as long as their criticism is constructive and it doesn’t constitute harm to the people we govern, we are ready to hear them. That will even serve as challenge to us.
“I am happy to inform you that the office within my period of assumption had engaged more than 40 heterogeneous groups with the hope of forging a partnership with them.” He noted.
Hon. Joseph said that the civil groups and NGOs in Lagos state should expect more of such meetings as it is a fulfilment of Governor Ambode’s electioneering promises
“During the last electioneering campaign, the governor promised the CSOs of a partnership and relationship that will lead to the development of the state. That promise is what we keep today. We are looking forward to a positive engagement of various groups within the political, economic, educational, cultural and social cycle.”
He stated further that there is nothing wrong in government funding the CSOs.
“There is nothing wrong in government funding the CSOs. A government funds INEC and in the end loose elections. The CSOs criticize the government but that should not mean that the government cannot fund them.”
