In a major move to bridge the educational gap within the Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I, the Lagos State Government has officially commissioned the Shogunle Junior Secondary School.

The facility marks a turning point for the local community, ensuring that quality learning is brought closer to the doorsteps of its residents.

A Landmark for Local Learning

During the unveiling ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, hailed the project as a vital investment in the state’s human capital.

Represented by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Yusuff, the Commissioner noted that the infrastructure would provide a conducive environment for academic excellence.

“This project stands as a landmark contribution to the advancement of learning in Shogunle and its environs,” Alli-Balogun stated. Emphasizing it will have a profound impact on students’ lives.

Addressing Safety and Distance Challenges

The project was facilitated by Hon. Bashiru Dawodu, the Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives. Speaking on the motivation behind the school, Dawodu revealed that the primary goal was to eliminate the long, often unsafe journeys students previously endured to reach distant secondary schools.

The new facility features 10 fully furnished classrooms designed to meet modern educational standards. Officials confirmed that the school is slated to commence academic activities starting with the 2026/2027 session.

Empowering Students for Exam Success

Beyond the physical infrastructure, the event served as a platform for academic empowerment. Hon. Dawodu distributed specially compiled compendiums of JAMB and WAEC past questions to students across the constituency.

This initiative is aimed at boosting the performance of candidates in upcoming external examinations.

Community Leaders Laud Initiative

The commissioning was met with widespread celebration from local leaders. The Baale of Shogunle, High Chief Ajisegiri, expressed the community’s gratitude, noting that the school’s proximity would enhance student safety and significantly improve daily attendance rates.

By providing a localized center for learning, the Lagos State Government and Hon. Dawodu have effectively removed a major barrier to education for hundreds of families in Shogunle.
