Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to attracting responsible investments, improving international trade relations and creating a business environment that supports private sector growth.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, at the 2026 European Business Chamber (EuroCham) Nigeria Awards Gala Dinner held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.
The governor said stronger economic ties between Nigeria and Europe could create more opportunities for businesses, boost employment and promote sustainable economic growth.
Nigeria-Europe Trade Exceeds €35 Billion Annually
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that discussions at the 10th Nigeria-EU Business Forum, held earlier in Lagos, highlighted more than €35 billion in annual trade and approximately €26 billion in European foreign direct investment in Nigeria, supporting over 130,000 direct jobs.
He said the benefits of international partnerships should go beyond trade figures to include support for local businesses, technology transfer, skills development and job creation.
“Our responsibility is to create an environment where businesses can invest, operate, grow, and compete,” the governor stated.
Lagos Highlights Business Environment Reforms
The governor said his administration remained committed to improving critical infrastructure, strengthening public institutions, developing human capital and making business operations easier.
He added that foreign investments should deliver measurable benefits to the local economy, including opportunities for indigenous businesses and increased employment.
Sanwo-Olu assured European investors and business leaders that Lagos was ready to build mutually beneficial partnerships that would promote industrial development, expand market access and improve Nigeria’s participation in international value chains.
He also commended EuroCham Nigeria for providing a platform for Nigerian and European businesses to connect, explore investment opportunities and deepen economic cooperation.
EuroCham Honours Ambrose-Medebem
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Excellence in Trade and Investment Award to Ambrose-Medebem by EuroCham Nigeria.
The governor congratulated the award recipients for their contributions to enterprise development, job creation and investor confidence.
He reiterated that Lagos remained open to partnerships capable of expanding economic opportunities and delivering shared prosperity.
The recognition of the commissioner came as the state restated its commitment to building stronger international business relationships and creating conditions for private enterprises to grow.
