These days, African economies have grown rapidly and it’s becoming an increasingly important region for businesses to invest in. The same can be said regarding Jaguar Land Rover.
Jaguar Land Rover sees it important to address some social issues in Africa and support further economic development in the area. The brands believe that as their supply chain grows and expands, local people will have the opportunity to join them.
Both companies believe in supporting projects such as the LifeStraw Water for Schools projects and ClimateCare both of which deliver shared value in places such as Kenya.
LifeStraw is helping to educate a whole generation of children about the importance of safe water and hygiene which will have a long and meaningful legacy. The staffs of Jaguar Land Rover are getting a better understanding of the companies’ Global CSR Programme and encourages colleagues to adopt a sustainable mindset.
Projects such as LifeStraw Water for Schools projects and ClimateCare are addressing key issues and one is to improve the availability of future talent for job opportunities and help people achieve their potential, supporting growth and in turn creating more demand for their vehicles.
Some schools have boreholes in their compound but due to the problem of public toilets linking with borehole water, the risk is truly high for people in Bungoma, especially children.
The reports that safe water experts are getting is that pupils drink water straight from the boreholes and sometimes, the water could have particles of dirt. Add to that, the challenges of taking water included struggling to get water as the borehole is often too crowded.
After drinking water from the borehole, students and teachers alike get sick and miss classes. Diarrhoea is often contacted from bad water. At least, as reported by one Ann Nyongesa, every week, there’s a child missing school because of water borne disease. The cases of illness could at times be so severe that a pupil may have continuous challenge missing school, which may also culminate in lower or poor grades.
In Bungoma, frequent rain contributes to the trouble, since rain causes water to be stagnant on the surface of the ground. This promotes water borne diseases.
In a place known as Bungoma, western side of Kenya, Jaguar Land Rover is doing a lot to develop and improve the lives of people. Three hundred thousand children and 375 schools in Bungoma are benefiting from the ClimateCare Project. This will go on till 2020.
The 2020 goal is meant to create opportunities for 12 million people, most of them children.
By 2020, Jaguar Land Rover will help improve more than three million lives in Kenya through support of various safe water projects. By that same year, through ClimateCare project, Jaguar Land Rover will create opportunities for over 7 million people, with over 6 million in Africa.
