The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fake news report currently circulating online titled: BREAKING: INEC Releases Timetable for 2027 General Elections.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Commission has strongly denied the report, stating that no such timetable or schedule of activities has been approved or released. INEC clarified that the details contained in the viral article, including specific dates for party primaries and campaign windows, are entirely speculative and have no official basis.
The commission urged the public, political parties, and civil society organizations to disregard the misleading report.
INEC assured the public that it will continue to remain committed to transparency and will announce the official 2027 election dates through proper channels at the appropriate time.
The Commission also advised Nigerians to seek information only via its verified website inecnigeria.org and official social media handles @inecnigeria (X, Facebook, and Instagram).
