In a bid to ensure a conducive learning environment for children in Lagos, Human Development Initiatives (HDI) has trained representatives of School Based Management Committee (SBMC) on promoting the rights of children in schools.

The two day training was conducted by HDI under its United for Inclusive Education Project supported by Disability Rights Fund (DRF).

The training exposed participants to the ten constitutional rights of children, and enlightened SBMC representatives on how to ensure that the rights of children are upheld.

HDI Education Program Officer, Mr. Samuel Ajayi, said the training became imperative for parents and community leaders who constitute the SBMC to be alive to their responsibility of supporting the government for free, qualitative and compulsory inclusive education for children of school age which is their rights.

Mr Ajayi who hinged the increasing rate of moral decadence in the society on influence of the social media on the psyche of the children, urged parents to have listening ears to the complains of their children.

Some of the participants from different local governments areas of the state, commended HDI, for the exposure to the rights of children and how to engage them for improved qualitative inclusive Education at all levels.

The participants urged other NGOs to follow suit and ensure their Corporate Social Responsibilities are tailored towards improving and promoting inclusive education in Lagos and Nigeria at large.

Participants received a social audit tool which would help them access their current position in promoting the rights of children in school.

They were also encouraged to step down knowledge gained from the training to other community leaders to ensure that no child is left behind in getting access to educate to reduce the over ten million out of school children in the country.
