In a celebration of academic brilliance, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District IV, Mr. Olufemi Bamidele Paseda, officially received the students of Gbaja Girls Senior High School following their landslide victory at the 74th WAEC Day Debate Competition.
The students, who outshone competitors from both public and private schools across Lagos State, visited the District office on Thursday to present their first-place trophy.
A Triumph of Eloquence and Discipline
The competition, a prestigious fixture in the state’s academic calendar, saw Gbaja Girls rise to the top through a display of superior intellectual depth and critical thinking. While hosting the delegation in his office, Mr. Paseda hailed the victory as a milestone for public education in the district.
He noted that the feat was a direct result of rigorous preparation and a testament to the students’ ability to compete at the highest levels of discourse.
“I am highly impressed by your brilliance and confidence. Emerging as winners in such a prestigious competition is no small feat,” Mr. Paseda stated. “You have not only made your school proud but have also set a commendable standard for other students to emulate. This victory is a testament to the quality of preparation, teamwork, and determination you possess.”

Beyond the trophy, the TG/PS emphasized the long-term benefits of competitive debating. He encouraged the students to stay focused on their studies, noting that the communication skills and self-confidence gained through the WAEC debate are essential tools for future leadership.
The TG/PS also extended his gratitude to the Principal and teaching staff, recognizing their tireless commitment to nurturing raw talent and refining the students’ oratorical skills.
