Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has formally picked up the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship nomination form ahead of the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election.
Malami said his decision to join the race was driven by concern over what he described as deepening insecurity, poverty, educational decline, and worsening economic conditions in the state.
He alleged that Kebbi State is currently facing severe governance challenges, including high levels of out-of-school children, widespread poverty, and poor access to basic services such as healthcare and education.
According to him, over 67 percent of children between the ages of 6 and 15 are currently out of school in the state, while many others are trapped in what he described as multidimensional poverty affecting their wellbeing and future prospects.
Malami also raised concerns over the state of the healthcare system, claiming that maternal mortality remains high, while preventable diseases such as malaria continue to claim lives, especially among children under five in rural communities.
He further said insecurity has worsened in several parts of Kebbi, with bandit attacks, kidnappings, and displacement of farming communities affecting livelihoods and forcing many residents to abandon their farms.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, Malami said he has declared what he called a “state of emergency on misgovernance” in Kebbi State, vowing to prioritize security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment if elected.
He added that his political ambition is rooted in service delivery and accountability, stressing that he intends to restore dignity to governance and rebuild public trust in leadership across the state.
