The Federal government has made clarifications on its position on the much talked about sale of national assets to raise money to reflate the economy.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday said the Federal Government was yet to decide on sale of any national asset.
He made this position known after the Federal Executive Council ( FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday at the Presidential Villa.
It should be recalled that Africa ‘s richest man, Aliko Dangote has called for the sale of national assets and the same sentiments was echoed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and some prominent Nigerians.
Last week, the National Economic Council ( NEC) headed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and the 36 states governors backed the sale of national assets as one of the ways to raise cash to reflate the economy.
However, speaking to State House Correspondents, the Minister of Information said so far all the reports are still in the realm of speculation as the federal government has not officially made its decision known on the matter.
He said: “Government is still working on the most comprehensive manner to reflate the economy and the government will make its position known very soon.
“The government is yet to come out with its position on how to bail out the economy and it will take that position.
“NEC will recommend but is the federal executive council that will decide and what we decide will be the position of government,” he added.
