The Federal Government has announced its full support and partnership for the upcoming 2026 “Let There Be Teachers” Conference, a massive human capital initiative targeting 200,000 educators across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This commitment marks a significant shift in the administration’s approach to education, moving beyond infrastructure to focus heavily on the professional dignity and competence of the Nigerian teacher.

The Engine of Educational Reform

Addressing the media on the government’s reform agenda, officials emphasized that the quality of classroom instruction is the ultimate determinant of national development.

“Improving teacher quality remains central to Nigeria’s education reform agenda, as no system can rise above the quality of its teachers,” a statement posted on x.

Relief for Educators: TRCN Fee Waiver

In a move to ease the financial burden on civil servants in the education sector, the Federal Government confirmed that starting in 2026, it will assume full responsibility for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) license fees for all public school teachers. This policy is expected to ensure that every educator in the public system remains professionally certified without personal out-of-pocket costs.

Digital Innovation and Professional Growth

To bridge the gap in access to modern teaching resources, the government has launched a zero-rated digital platform. This portal is designed to provide continuous professional development for teachers nationwide, allowing them to access training materials and pedagogical tools without incurring data costs.

From Record to Reform

The 2026 conference, themed From Record to Reform, aims to move the needle from symbolic achievements to measurable transformations in teaching and learning outcomes. By gathering 200,000 participants, the event seeks to set a new global standard for large-scale teacher engagement and systemic improvement.
