In a major move to streamline administrative bottlenecks and curb forgery, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced the full automation of the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials. Effective immediately, the traditional manual verification process has been scrapped in favor of a strictly online system designed to enhance transparency and public service delivery.
A Digital Shift for Educational Integrity
The transition is part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at modernizing data management within the education sector. By moving the process online, the Ministry intends to eliminate the need for physical presence, thereby reducing processing times and ensuring the integrity of academic records across the country.
Boriowo Folasade, the Director of Press and Public Relations, emphasized the importance of this technological leap in a statement released Wednesday.
“This development aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and its resolve to deploy modern technology to improve efficiency, ensure data integrity, and support evidence-based policy decisions within the education sector,” Folasade stated.
New Guidelines for Applicants
Under the new directive, all individuals seeking to verify or evaluate their certificates must now utilize the official verification portal at essverify.education.gov.ng. The Ministry clarified that the system is now the sole channel for applications, and physical visits to the Ministry’s headquarters for verification purposes are no longer required.
To complete the process, applicants are mandated to:

Register and upload all supporting documents via the online portal.

Direct their respective awarding institutions to send official academic transcripts electronically.

Ensure transcripts are sent directly from an institutional email to the designated address: ess1@education.gov.ng.
Enhancing Credibility and Efficiency
The Ministry believes that this shift to a fully automated platform will act as a safeguard against the falsification of results while simplifying the experience for Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora. By requiring direct institutional communication for transcripts, the government aims to create a waterproof verification trail that bolsters the global credibility of Nigerian academic qualifications.
