The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming recovered proceeds of crime into strategic investments in Nigeria’s education sector.
This follows the formal handover of recovered assets by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Ministry of Education for immediate deployment across educational institutions nationwide.
Redirecting Recovered Loot for Student Welfare
While receiving the assets in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the restitution as a tangible demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development and the Renewed Hope Agenda. The minister emphasized that these recoveries are being transparently redirected to improve learning infrastructure, expand access to quality education, and directly enhance student welfare.
“This restitution is another demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to education, human capital development and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Dr. Alausa stated. He further noted that recovered assets are being redirected to improve learning infrastructure, expand access to quality education, and enhance students’ welfare.
EFCC Partnership Yields Tangible Educational Funding
Dr. Alausa commended the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for ensuring that the commission’s anti-corruption efforts deliver practical benefits to everyday Nigerians. The collaboration between the ministry and the anti-graft agency has yielded significant milestones in recent times. Previous asset recoveries successfully supported the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and provided critical seed funding for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Operation Eagle Flush Asset Deployment
In this latest enforcement phase, the EFCC formally transferred a substantial cache of institutional furniture seized during Operation Eagle Flush. The recovered items include 501 double-decker bed frames, 939 mattresses, and 12 wooden beds with mattresses.
According to a statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Ministry of Education has committed to deploying these assets transparently to immediately strengthen educational infrastructure and improve learning outcomes across the country.
