FG Deploys More Security Assets, Vows to End Insecurity in Kano

The Federal Government has vowed to strengthen security operations in Kano State and deploy additional security assets to tackle insecurity following the recent bandit attack in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, gave the assurance on Monday during a condolence and assessment visit to the Kano State Government House following the August 29, 2026 attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam.

Matawalle said the Bola Tinubu-led government remained committed to defeating insecurity and restoring lasting peace across the country.

He said the Federal Government was adopting proactive strategies, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments to address security challenges.

The minister also assured Kano residents that the government would continue to provide the Armed Forces and other security agencies with the resources needed to protect lives and property.

FG Strengthens Security Operations After Garun Mallam Attack

The visit followed the attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area on August 29, which led to the abduction of residents by suspected bandits.

Matawalle said security forces responded swiftly to the incident, with troops from the 3 Brigade Kano and personnel of the Joint Task Force launching a rescue operation.

The operation, led by the Commander of 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General Jimoh, involved personnel from the Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps.

According to the Defence Ministry, the troops successfully rescued kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam.

Matawalle commended the troops for their response and said the Federal Government would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

He said the government would also sustain proactive operations aimed at preventing attacks and responding quickly to emerging security threats.

Matawalle Commends Troops for Rescuing Kidnap Victims

Matawalle said the Federal Government would continue to do everything possible to support security personnel in their efforts to protect Nigerians.

“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” he said.

He noted that achieving lasting victory over insecurity would require sustained cooperation among the Federal Government, state governments, local communities and security agencies.

The minister also stressed the importance of timely and credible information from citizens to enable security agencies to respond effectively to threats.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security personnel by providing useful information about suspicious activities and emerging security challenges.

Matawalle said the Federal Government remained committed to providing the resources and strategic support required to protect the lives and property of Nigerians and safeguard the territorial integrity of the country.

FG Deploys More Weapons, Fighting Vehicles to Kano

The minister announced that additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational enablers would be deployed to Kano State to strengthen ongoing security operations.

He said the move was part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to improve the capacity of security agencies to respond to insecurity across the country.

Matawalle also disclosed that Bola Tinubu had constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan aimed at providing a strategic framework for addressing the country’s security challenges.

According to him, the plan would support better coordination, long-term planning and improved operational effectiveness across the defence and security sector.

Following the assessment visit, Matawalle held a closed-door security meeting with commanders of the 3 Brigade and other security formations in Kano.

He charged the commanders to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations, redouble their efforts and ensure that security threats in the state were confronted decisively.

Kano Government Pledges Support for FG’s Security Efforts

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, thanked Matawalle for visiting the state and assessing the security situation following the attack.

Yusuf expressed confidence in the minister’s leadership and assured the Federal Government of the state government’s continued cooperation in tackling insecurity.

He said the Kano State Government would work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that the security challenges facing the state did not persist.

The governor’s commitment comes as the Federal Government seeks stronger collaboration with state governments as part of its broader strategy to address insecurity.

Matawalle reiterated that the Federal Government would continue to provide the necessary resources and support to security agencies while strengthening coordination with state authorities.

He said the government remained determined to restore peace and security across Kano and other parts of the country, assuring Nigerians that efforts to end insecurity would be sustained.
