The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 12, 2026, as a public holiday across the nation. The announcement, made in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day, underscores the country’s ongoing journey toward sustainable democratic governance and civic freedom.
The declaration was made on behalf of the federal government by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Thursday.
