The Federal Government has confirmed Monday, September 14, 2026, as the approved resumption date for students of Federal Unity Colleges nationwide, dismissing reports of an additional three-week holiday.
The Federal Ministry of Education made this known in a statement issued on Saturday, September 12, following the circulation of a purported circular on social media announcing an extension of the holiday until October 4.
The Ministry said the document did not originate from it and described the circular as fabricated, urging parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders to disregard it.
It reaffirmed that there had been no directive extending the holiday or changing the September 14 resumption date for Federal Unity Colleges.
FME Debunks Fake Three-Week Holiday Circular
The Ministry said the fake document was dated September 8, 2026, and carried the reference number “FME/SS/UNI/2026/128.”
According to the statement, the circular also falsely bore the name and signature of “Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Garba” as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The Ministry clarified that its Acting Permanent Secretary is Dr. Mrs. Folake Olatunji David, further describing the circulating document as fraudulent.
The development comes as students of Federal Unity Colleges prepare to return to school following the approved holiday period.
The Ministry warned members of the public against reproducing or sharing the purported circular, saying doing so could further spread inaccurate information about the resumption arrangements.
Ministry Urges Public to Verify Official Information
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, assured parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders of the Federal Government’s commitment to a safe, orderly and seamless resumption.
The Ministry urged the public to verify information concerning schools and academic activities through its established communication channels before sharing such information.
It said the public should rely on official announcements from the Ministry rather than documents circulating on social media without confirmation.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely and transparent information to parents, students and other stakeholders.
The statement was signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education.
The Ministry reiterated that Monday, September 14, 2026, remains the approved resumption date for Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
