The Edo State Police Command has announced the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division in Esan West Local Government Area, as part of ongoing security assessments and strategic measures to tackle rising insecurity in the region.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpoma Division with immediate effect.

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that as part of ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division. The CP has also approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The move comes after rising concerns over insecurity in Ekpoma, including kidnappings and the recent killing of a youth on Friday, January 9, 2026, which had triggered protests by residents. The peaceful demonstration on Saturday, January 10, over insecurity, however, turned violent when some youths attacked traders at the livestock market, killing goats and beating cows, in an incident captured in a viral video.

The protesters also vandalised the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, Zaiki Anthony Abumere II, an act condemned by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. During the unrest, one person was reportedly shot by a soldier, and the case has been referred to military authorities for investigation.

The police have urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement, avoid taking the law into their hands, and report any suspicious activities promptly to maintain peace in the community.

The appointment of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze as DPO is expected to strengthen local policing efforts and restore public confidence in law enforcement across Ekpoma and surrounding areas.
