Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has admitted the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, to bail in the sum of ₦100 million. Adamu, who is facing charges brought by the Federal Government, was involved in alleged terrorism financing to the tune of $9.7 million.
In a ruling delivered on the commissioner’s bail application, Justice Umar mandated that Adamu provide two sureties in the same amount. The court specified that one surety must be a serving Permanent Secretary, while the other must be a Director within the civil service.
Significantly, Justice Umar noted in his ruling that the prosecution’s proof of evidence currently lacks sufficient links to terrorism financing. The judge remarked that mere financial donations to individuals or corporate bodies do not constitute a crime unless there is verifiable evidence that the recipients are known terrorists or terrorist organizations.
As part of the bail conditions, Adamu was ordered to deposit his travel documents with the court registrar and is barred from international travel without judicial permission. He is also required to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Bauchi every Monday. The trial has therefore been adjourned to March 26, 2026.
