The ConstitutionLab, a Civic tech organization, has flagged off its community engagement to educate the grassroots on constitution literacy.
The NGO focused on providing Nigerians with a working knowledge of the Constitution and it’s contemporary relevance to increase civic participation in governance, stated that the constitution education is aimed at raising informed citizens who would be aware of the provision of the Nigeria constitution.
Brownson Etimbuk, the Team lead of ConstitutionLab, stated that the constitution education has begun with members of the community enlightened on their rights as citizens of Nigeria.
Mr Etimbuk noted that the first ConstitutionLab session had 28 community members present.
He said, “We enlightened the community members on the provisions of the Constitution with regards to their rights and duties as citizens, the responsibility of government and the functions of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary arms of the government.
“They were also enlightened on the constitutional provisions and functions of LGAs and the Recall process.
“The members of the community were filled with excitement and joy about the event and the information they have gotten and promised to become more active and engage their elected officials more on issues of development.”
