The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD) has decried the lack of inclusive education for children with disabilities, despite awareness efforts.
Executive Secretary Dr. James David Lalu made the call on the International Day of the African Child, urging parents and guardians to support children with disabilities and stakeholders to promote inclusivity.
Lalu lamented that children with disabilities face discrimination and exclusion, even within their families. He emphasized the need for a holistic approach to create a society where persons with disabilities can thrive.
The event also featured discussions on nutrition and education. Dr. Osita Okonkwo of Nutrition International stressed the importance of balanced diets for cognitive and physical development, while Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant to the President on school feeding, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to provide nutritional support to school children.
The event included a quiz competition among public primary schools in the FCT, organized by African Scholars Care Initiative
